Dear all,

Over the past month, documentaries and movies in various languages have been recorded from SBS & ABC channels.

Please feel free to pass on this email to colleagues who might be interested.

These programmes are available in the Self Study room (Rm 222, Brennan MacCallum building) should you wish to view them.

Switzerland’s official Oscar entry for 2005. The story of a marriage plunged into crisis after a shattering tragedy, set during winter in the captivating and beautiful Swiss Jura. Winner of Best First Film at Venice.

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days

The powerful and haunting true story about the final days of the brave anti-Nazi heroine Sophie Scholl. Their mission is to educate Munich about the cruel, barbaric acts of Adolf Hitler. On a dangerous mission to distribute pamphlets on campus, Sophie and her brother are arrested. Nominated for a 2006 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Sweet Mud

In Israel in the mid-1970s, 12-year-old Dvir Avni navigates between the equality values of his Kibbutz and his relationship with his mentally unstable mother. She blames her condition and the suicide of Dvir’s father on the suffocating atmosphere of Kibbutz life, while the Kibbutz members wish to denounce her. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Talk To Me About Love

Pigs and Battleships

This dazzling, unruly portrait of post-war Japan details, with escalating absurdity, the desperate power struggles between small-time gangsters in the port town of Yokosuka. Shot in black and white, the film follows a young couple as they try to navigate Yokosuka’s corrupt businessmen and their own unsure future together. With its breakneck pacing and constantly inventive cinematography, this film marked director Shohei Imamura as a major voice in Japanese cinema.
