Welcome message for all students (Semester 2, 2011)

Hello to all our new (and existing) students at the University!

If you’re taking up a foreign language this semester, you may or may not know that there is a language library specifically catered to your needs.

The AV Language Library is located in the Brennan MacCallum Building (A18, Level 2) and comprises of the Library as well as the Self Study room.  Do note that this is a closed-access library; thus no resources can be borrowed out.

So what materials do we have?

In the Library, we have reference materials such as dictionaries, as well as resources for non-curriculum languages.  We also hold a number of CDs, DVDs, videotapes and cassettes in many languages.

The Self Study room provides access to curriculum textbooks, interactive self-paced language learning materials, some recorded lectures and classwork for students and staff learning languages other than English and English as a second language.

The computers in the room provide access to interactive multimedia language resources and live multilingual satellite television broadcasts. Language reference materials such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries and some textbooks are also available for use here.  You can also watch foreign language movies from these computers.

Our opening hours are Mondays – Fridays from 9.00 am – 4.45 pm.

For more info, please visit our webpage to download our Brochure, ‘Like’ us on Facebook, or simply pop by to say hi!  If you have any questions, feel free to post them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/SydneyUniLanguages

Wishing all a good semester ahead, and happy studying! 🙂

      Hi there,

      Thanks for your comment.

We are only a smallish library, and thus our priority is for students learning languages. We do have the Access labs across the hallway, though, if you would like to use the computers for Internet, word-processing, etc.
